A week from Geneva, Audi is unveiling four new plug-in hybrid models, the Q5, A6, A7 and A8 TFSI e. Audi is ready for the Geneva Motor Show with the announcement of four new plug-in hybrid variants of the Q5, A6, A7 and A8. Ready to make their debut next week, the new TFSI e will have a 100% electric range of 40 km. With this announcement, the German manufacturer mentions that from now on, the e-torn nomenclature will now be used for 100% electric models only. For this reason, the announced plug-in hybrid variants will carry the seal “TFSI e”.
The lithium-ion battery in the Audi Q5, A6, A7 and A8 TFSI will have a capacity of 14.1 kWh. Each model will be available in two distinct versions, a comfort version and a performance version with a sportier design. According to the British magazine Auto Express, these variants will endorse the names 50 TFSI e or 55 TFSI e for Audi Q5, A6 and A7. As for her, the Audi A8 will come under 55 TFSI e and 60 TFSI e. The 50 TFSI e versions will be powered by a 2.0L 4-cyl turbo engine while the 55 TFSI e will be powered by a 3.0L V6.
Three different modes will be offered to the drivers of these rechargeable hybrids: “EV”, “Auto” and “Hold”. The “Auto” mode allows the system to choose, on its own, when to use the gasoline engine or electric motor, for maximum efficiency. Hold mode controls the power train so that the current state of charge of the battery is maintained. Obviously, the “EV” mode prioritizes driving in electric mode car covers.
In addition to the three modes mentioned above, the driver will be able to select different driving modes, namely “comfort”, “efficiency”, “auto”, and “dynamic”, which will thus influence the configuration of the pipe, suspension and from the direction. My Audi app will also be available to buyers. The latter will remotely control battery status and battery life, start the charging process, program the charge timer and view the car’s charging and consumption statistics. Programming pre-board temperature control settings is also available with my Audi app. A quick start of climate components is also possible when unlocking the vehicle with the key.
The sketch of the Audi Q4 e-torn shows a new electric SUV
After weeks of rumors and speculation, we have a preview of the upcoming Audi e-torn model for the Geneva Motor Show. Called Audi Q4 e-torn, this is a smaller version of the current and new Audi e-torn that rivals the I-Pace Jaguar and the future Mercedes-Benz EQC. The Q4 e-torn, on the other hand, has no direct competition at the moment. It could change everything if Tesla introduces Model Y later this year, but it will have to be patient.
Expected in 2020, the new Audi Q4 e-torn seems to fit between Q3 and Q5 in terms of dimensions. The sketch shows a compact coupe SUV in the same mold as a Mercedes-Benz GLC CoupĂ© or BMW X4, and Audi has confirmed that the Q4 e-torn would be built on Volkswagen’s new SEM platform designed for electric vehicles. The sketch shows a massive grid and a muscular overall shape that evolve many elements of Audi design. Thin laser headlamps, six-sided grille and wheel design remind us of today’s Audi products, but the narrow side windows and oversized body panels remind us that the Audi Q4 e-torn is still a concept for the moment.
We would not be surprised if Audi followed up on its unveiling of the Geneva Motor Show with a production version this autumn at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Audi Q4 e-torn: a third e-torn in less than 12 months. Audi is definitely trying to beat its main German rivals in terms of all-electric vehicles. Its new e-torn arrives at least a year ahead of the Mercedes-Benz EQC and two good years ahead of the BMW inept, and only Jaguar with the i-Pace has managed to reach the market before. Since the Audi e-torn costs about $ 70,000 less on average than a Tesla Model X, it cannot be considered a direct rival.
With the new Audi Q4 e-torn, Audi is already turning to the segment of compact high-end electric sport utility vehicles, currently empty. Tesla surely has a Model Y in preparation, but we have not seen anything concrete yet. Given the history of Tesla and its difficulties in marketing new products, it can be assumed that the Audi Q4 e-torn will be ahead of the Model Y in the market in 2020. We are also talking about new Mercedes-Benz EQA models and EQB, but it will have to wait to learn more from this side.
Audi could very well follow with the Audi e-torn GT luxury electric sedan that we saw at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. The GT will compete with the Tesla Model S and the upcoming Tayca Porsche. In other words, Audi’s e-torn range is growing and developing rapidly. We look forward to seeing what awaits us by the end of the year.
The configuration for the Audi e-torn 2019 is now online
Canadians can finally configure their Audi e-torn 2019 online, a first for those who have pre-ordered this new electric SUV. Since last August, Audi Canada has accepted reservations for its all-new e-torn electric SUV. A deposit of $ 1,000 is enough to be added to the waiting list. After several months of waiting, the configuration of the Audi e-torn 2019 is finally online in Canada, but only for those who have pre-ordered their SUV. As we mentioned last year, two versions will be available in Canada: the e-torn 55 Quattro Progressive and the e-torn 55 Quattro Technique. Base prices will be $ 90,000 and $ 98,000, respectively. In addition, a choice of 10 colors will be offered for both sub models.
Optional equipment
Three sets of equipment will be available on the e-torn 55 Quattro Technique: the adaptive driving assistance package ($ 2,800), the driving assistance package ($ 2,800) and all luxury ($ 4,000). For the e-torn 55 Quattro Progressive sub model, the first two sets will be available while the luxury package will be replaced by the all-amenities package ($ 850). At the level of the rims, three dimensions are available. As standard, both versions will have 20-inch wheels.
Alternatively, the configuration offers the addition of a second passenger side AC charging plug for $ 600. Thus, the driver would be able to connect his vehicle on both sides of it. For those who prefer the look of the Audi All road, contrasting paint on the lower body will be offered at a cost of $ 500. In terms of power, the e-torn 55 Quattro will have the equivalent of 265 hp and 414 lb-ft of torque, 490 lb-ft in boost mode. According to Audi, the electric SUV will go 0-100 km / h in 6.6 seconds or 5.7 in boost mode. In addition, the e-torn 55 Quattro will have a towing capacity of 1,800 kg (3,968 lb).
